Race Goals
Race Goals holds your target times, projects what your current fitness is worth at each distance, and tracks your fastest efforts. This page covers each of those.
Setting goals
Basecamp creates default goals after your first Strava sync, based on the activity types it found:
| Category | Default distances |
|---|---|
| Run | 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon |
| Cycle | 5 mi, 10K, 10 mi, 20K, 30K, 40K, 50K |
| Swim | 400 m, 750 m, 1500 m |
| Hike | 10K, 20K, 30K |
Default goals start with no target time. From there you can:
- Set a target time and an optional race date
- Add elevation gain for mountain races
- Delete the goals you do not need
- Create a custom goal at any distance

Projected times
For each goal, Basecamp projects a finish time from your most recent LT2 pace using sport-specific Riegel scaling. Running and hiking projections include an elevation adjustment once you enter vertical gain.
No projection appears until you add a lactate threshold test. Basecamp does not substitute a generic fitness estimate when LT2 pace is missing.
The gap
The gap between your projected time and your target time is shown both as a time difference and as a percentage.
Best times
For each goal distance, Basecamp lists your 3 fastest efforts, drawn from:
- Strava best efforts, runs only — tracked automatically at standard distances: 400 m, 1K, 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon
- Computed efforts — for other distances and activity types, interpolated proportionally from activities within a distance tolerance window
You can override a time by hand, for instance to correct a GPS error.
Estimated weeks to goal
Basecamp estimates how many weeks reaching each goal may take, combining your projected-time gap with training volume and intensity from the past 90 days.
This is a planning signal, not a schedule. It moves as your training moves, and it is unavailable without a target time or enough projection data.
Personal records
Basecamp tracks all-time records per activity category. Each record links back to the Strava activity it came from.
| Category | Records |
|---|---|
| Run | Longest distance, most elevation, longest duration |
| Cycle | Longest distance, most elevation, longest duration |
| Swim | Longest distance, longest duration |
| Hike | Longest distance, most elevation, longest duration |
