Training Analysis
Training Analysis breaks your training down week by week and measures your blocks against standard periodization phases. This page covers what each part of it reports.
Weekly summary
Each week shows:
- Total volume — hours, distance, and elevation
- Intensity distribution — the percentage of time in each Johnston zone
- Activity count — split by activity type
Together these say whether the week was recovery, aerobic base, or intensity.

Aerobic efficiency
Aerobic Efficiency compares your speed against the heart rate needed to produce it. It is a trend, not a verdict on any single activity.
- A sustained rise suggests your aerobic system is adapting.
- A flat trend means speed and cardiovascular effort are moving together.
- A temporary drop can be fatigue, heat, hills, or incomplete data rather than lost fitness.
The chart plots each value against your average: zero is your baseline, positive is above it, negative below. Read weeks or months before changing your training on it.
Periodization compliance
Training blocks are measured against standard phase targets. A block is compliant when its actual zone split meets the target for its phase.
| Phase | Target distribution | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Base | Z1+Z2 at 80% or more | Aerobic foundation |
| Build | Z1+Z2 at 70% or more | Introducing threshold work |
| Specific | Z3+Z4 up to 40% | Race-specific intensity |
| Taper | Reduced volume | Holding the intensity distribution |
Progression trends
Across multiple weeks, Basecamp reports:
- Volume progression — increasing, stable, or decreasing
- Intensity shift patterns
- Training consistency
