Ingredients

The Ingredients screen manages the library your recipes draw from. Ingredients are shared across recipes, and their Already Have status carries through to grocery lists. This page covers managing them and merging duplicates.

The ingredient list

Every ingredient is listed with its name, type tag, and Already Have status.

Search — filter by name.

Filter by type — narrow the list to one ingredient-type tag.

Sort — toggle alphabetical order.

Add or edit — an ingredient takes a name and an optional ingredient-type tag.

Already Have — mark the ingredients you keep at home. They land in the Already Have tab of a grocery list rather than To Buy, so you mark a staple once and it stays out of every future shop.

Delete — permanently removes the ingredient. Recipes that referenced it lose the link.

Manage Ingredient Tags opens the Tags screen filtered to ingredient types.

Empty states: "No ingredients yet" when the library is empty, "No ingredients found" when a search or filter matches nothing.

Find Duplicates

Find Duplicates looks for ingredients entered under similar names. If it finds none, it says so. Otherwise it opens a dialog of duplicate groups.

Worth running occasionally. Two spellings of the same ingredient are treated as 2 ingredients, so their quantities never combine on a grocery list and the same thing appears twice.

For each group, select the ingredient you want to keep. The dialog shows:

  • How many recipes are affected
  • The combined tags from every duplicate
  • How many ingredient records will be deleted

Confirming moves every recipe reference to the ingredient you kept, adds the unique tags to it, and deletes the duplicate records. Where a recipe already used the one you kept, its existing entry is left alone.

Merging cannot be undone. Check the ingredient you are keeping and the deletion count before you confirm.
